Comparing and contrasting Television from the past and today?

I have to write a compare and contrast essay on the history of television shows. I have to pick out main points for the body paragraphs.

So far I have:

-Television shows today are much more violent.
-More raunchier, more sexual.
-Foul language.
-Reality shows/Instant celebrity.

Any other ideas? And does anyone know where I can find research for my main points? Like statistics and such?

Black and white versus color
Special effects
Shows are more graphic in many ways - including those plastic surgery shows
There are more cartoons geared toward teenagers and adults
Way more channels to suit the needs of the population - pretty much everyone can find a show they enjoy whether it be Forensic Files, Rachel Ray, or the Home Shopping Network.

In regards to the more sexual part you wrote - On I Love Lucy, Lucy and Ricky slept in separate beds since it was inappropriate to show them in bed together back then.
